Columbus, Ohio, November 21, 2011 - Single Parent Benefits, the staff on the Benefits for Single Parents website today announced the publication of the Help for Single Parents informational article which details the steps that are necessary for them to apply for assistance. The website also expands on the criteria that the state uses to determine who can qualify for assistance such as the age and school status of the child.
One of the most important things that the Benefits for Single Parents website offers guardians is the knowledge that not all guardians have to be the child’s parent. There are a lot of cases in which the person applying for help for single parents may qualify if they are taking care of the child in their home but are not the child’s biological parents.
Another important element that is discussed on the website is helping guardians understand that if the child is under seventeen years of age and out of high school but intending to continue to study at a college or begin specialized or technical training the child may still qualify for benefits.
“I found the Benefits for Single Parents website to be extremely informative. I didn’t know that I could apply for single parent benefits if my son is in college. He’s eighteen years old and just started school and I was so worried that I’d have to pay for everything by myself. I only earn thirteen dollars an hour so every little bit helps especially when you have a child in college that needs books and other materials for school”. - Julianne Morehouse
Benefits for single parents can range from helping with income to support the parent and the children to helping the child with free milk and lunches at school to ensure that the child receives at least the minimal nutritional
values recommended by the government’s Food and Drug Administration office. The free lunches at school have been extremely helpful for single parents many of whom are not earning a lot of money to be able to provide everything the child needs.
