When Father Becomes An Addict…A True Story

Ruins of drugs are traceable not only in the body of addicts, but also in soul of their loved ones. Anne’s father is a cocaine addict, going to drug rehab center. Anne is getting him treated; she is happy and hopeful to receive his sober father after 6 months. She shares her experience of having an addict father. "If it happens to be the sole bread earner of the family, then entire family has to live in misery and shame."

According to Anne; 17, her father started taking crack cocaine some 5 years ago and is an aggressive addict by now. Anne, who is a school drop-out, is eldest among all four children in the family. There family was estranged by relatives and friends because of her father’s addiction. "They fear he may get some of their young children involve too."

Due to frequent physical abuses and misery, her mother has become too weak to manage and take responsibility of a household of six. Anne explains, she had to leave school since she had to help her mother out with house hold work.

She started working in a construction site at 15, to keep the pot boiling. Soon her mother also started earning. Together they use to pay for house and use to save for father’s treatment. Her father who use to come home at all odd hours, in search of money, use to thrash her mother demanding money to buy cocaine.

Anne says they use to make for every dollar they earned as soon as they earned it, lest father may spend it for his addiction. Still she sympathizes with her father as she recalls good times when she was a kid and her father was a sober man. She says every morning when her father use to wake up, extricating the spell of cocaine, and use to behave like old concerned father. But as his desire and craving for the fatal powder use to increases, he turned into beast.

"It seems he wants to break free, but he became too weak to do so" says Anne. Several families all over the world are facing same ruthless circumstances due to drug addiction; families get disgusted at night and sympathize in morning. Drug addiction is a devil incarnation. Anne is happy now and eagerly waits for her father’s return from drug rehab.

Many addicts, who have rehabilitated, share their experiences with us "I knew I was too much into it, I wanted to say no, but my body was so used to it that if I avoided it for some time, my muscles started stretching, body started aching, and I use to feel anxious and panicky, until I surrender to it again. It was a vicious cycle I broke through with the help of drug rehab center. Apparently, it is hard to break through addiction and without help of rehab centers it almost seems impossible."
