Were looking for budding writers and illustrators, aged between 5 and 11, to take part in the very first Little Tiger Press Young Writer & Illustrator Awards, sponsored by PriceMinister.
This national competition is designed to tie in with Key Stages 1 and 2 of English Writing and Art and Design,and will give children a fantastic opportunity to develop their own stories and artwork inspired by ideas from some of the best-loved Little Tiger Press authors and illustrators. It aims to encourage reading and creativity from an early age and to give children a sense of enjoyment and confidence in reading, writing and illustrating.
Not only does the competition give the children the opportunity to work with the words and art of real, published authors and illustrators, but the winners will get to meet them at a prize-giving ceremony and to work directly with them at the winning school or organisation. In addition, the children will meet editors and designers from the publisher and have their work professionally designed and framed.
The authors and illustrators have given hints and tips on the awards website (www.childrens-books-award.co.uk ) and will be jointly judging the awards with the Little Tiger Press team.
Tracy Cordery, one of the judges and author of The Grunt and the Grouch and The Little White Owl said:
"I am delighted to be involved in such a great competition. I think children should be encouraged to explore their imagination and compose inspirational writing. I have learnt so much during my time as an author and its wonderful that I can share my love for books with others."
This competition is sponsored by PriceMinister, who are providing fantastic prizes for the winners, including up to £800 worth of PriceMinister vouchers for the winning school or organisation. The competition is open to all schools, charities and organisations working with children currently in years one to six. The deadline for all competition entries is 18th June 2010.
