A theatre in North Tyneside, in the North East of England, has been nursing its embarrassment after a spelling mistake on its Christmas pantomime programme left staff red faced.
The Whitley Bay Playhouse handed out programmes to the audience for its production panto of Aladdin, which is running until 2nd January. But it wasn’t until a father in the crowd spotted the blunder that a revised version of the programme had been published with the corrected.
The mistake, which was blamed on human error, consisted of the letter T being missed from Widow Twankey’s name; the female character in Aladdin currently being played by BBC radio presenter Paul Harris.
The misprinted programme was withdrawn and an apology to all theatre goers was issued. The promoters behind Aladdin, Blue Genie Entertainment, also issued an apology on behalf of the printing company responsible for the fault.
