Congratulations to Scorpion Performance, Inc. for being named a Finalist in the 10th annual Manufacturer of the Year Award presented by the South Florida Manufacturers Association (SFMA). Being named one of the three Finalists out of 50 nominees is truly an outstanding feat for Scorpion, especially because this was the company’s first entry into the annual competition. According to SFMA Lead Judge Phil Centonze, “Other companies have entered for six or seven years before being named a Finalist.”
The 2010 Finalist award plaque was accepted by Scorpion’s General Manager and Chief Operating Officer, Luke Whalen, during the SFMA’s 31st Annual Recognition of Excellence Awards Banquet on March 24th at the prestigious Design Center of the Americas in Dania, Florida. More than 300 attendees looked on as the awards were given. Blue Ocean Press received the top award and Strataglass, Ltd. was the third Finalist in Scorpion’s category of Under 50 Employees. Notable winners in other categories included Anodyne Medical Device, Inc., Southeastern Printing and Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne.
Each nominated company completed a comprehensive questionnaire followed by a telephone interview with selected members of the SFMA Panel of Judges. Finalists were then selected. The Finalists then provided an overview of their firm, gave a brief tour of their facility, and addressed six particular criteria points:
• Leadership
• Strategic Planning
• Workforce Focus
• Process Management
• Customer & Market Focus
• Measurement, Analysis & Knowledge Management
The SFMA Manufacturer of the Year Award is multipurpose. First, it recognizes and rewards excellence in ALL facets of manufacturing. Second, the judging process provides valuable feedback to nominees and Finalists. Thirdly, it raises the visibility and value of manufacturing to the South Florida economy.
For 50 years the South Florida Manufacturers Association has been focused and dedicated to advancing manufacturing locally. There are approximately 15,000 manufactures in Florida with more than 3,500 of them located in South Florida.
