27th January 2012: Olaf Swantee, CEO at Everything Everywhere, Paul Taylor, Engineering Manager at Google, Matthew Postgate, Head of R&D at the BBC and Professor Christopher Lowe from the University of Cambridge are among the high profile keynote speakers announced today by Cambridge Wireless to address the ‘Reshaping of the Mobile Industry’ at the fourth Future of Wireless International Conference 2012.
Over 300 senior wireless industry executives from across the globe will converge in Cambridge on 26 and 27 June to debate and explore the challenges facing network operators, device manufacturers and their supply ecosystems. Many of these challenges are driven by the growing consumer migration towards integrated TV, tablet and mobile content and services provided by ‘over the top’ (OTT) web and digital media brands such as Facebook, Google, Skype and Twitter.
“For over twenty-five years, the wireless industry has delivered significant value to consumers through continued innovation in voice and data services. However, as the infrastructure has been built out to deliver richer content to smarter connected devices, the traditional business models of incumbent players have simultaneously come under intense pressure,” says Peter Whale, Board Member at Cambridge Wireless and Director of Product Management at Qualcomm Incorporated. “The Future of Wireless International Conference this year will examine the impact of internet and media brand offerings on service provision and future smart device development, as well as the areas for future innovation and where business growth opportunities are likely to be found.”
To address the Reshaping of the Mobile Industry, Cambridge Wireless - the leading independent wireless business and technology community- has brought together an impressive international line-up of speakers from industry and academia that includes Rory O’Neill, Vice President of Software and Services EMEA, RIM; Andy Hudson, Head of Spectrum Policy, Vodafone; Jim Maynard, President, Wavefront, Canada; Vincent Korstanje, VP Segment Marketing, ARM; Brian Roberston, Associate Director, Broadcom; Dr Jo Butler, Director of Spectrum Technology, Ofcom; Rupert Cezalet, Head of Public Affairs, Airwave Solutions; Ray Anderson, CEO, Bango and many more. The ‘Cambridge Debate’ at the end of the conference will be chaired by Peter Day, Business Correspondent, BBCNews, BBC.
The conference will also include exhibition zones along with hands-on workshops, facilitated brainstorms and plenary sessions. Next generation wireless start-ups will be showcasing their innovative ideas in the Start-Up Zone and the five winners from the Cambridge Wireless Discovering Start-Ups 2011 competition will pitch to the full conference at the Innovation Hothouse.
“Once again, the Future of Wireless International Conference puts the spotlight on critical issues facing the wireless industry today,” says Dr David Cleevely, FREng FIET, Chairman of Cambridge Wireless. “This is an industry undergoing a revolution. The competitive edge is moving from handsets to platforms, from voice to data, from services to apps. The move of the big internet players into mobile is just the beginning. The future of the industry hinges on how this will play out."
The 2012 Future of Wireless International Conference will take place at The Møller Centre and Churchill College Cambridge and will reflect every part of the wireless value chain. “Now in its fourth year, the conference is firmly established on the wireless industry calendar and continues to attract a very high level of speakers and delegates from around the world to deliver a unique insight into the future of the mobile and wireless marketplace,” said Dr Soraya Jones, CEO of Cambridge Wireless.
