IMARC Group, one of the world's leading research and advisory firms, in its latest report entitled “Indian Diagnostic & Therapeutic Antibodies Market Report & Forecast: 2011-2016” expects the market for immunodiagnostics in India to grow at a CAGR of 11% during 2011-16. Findings from the report suggested that immunology based diagnostics currently provide numerous advantages over other diagnostic technologies. The time, duration and costs currently involved with immunodiagnostics, and in particular, the rapid tests are ideal for conducting preliminary tests. Immunology based tests offer a significantly higher sensitivity compared to microscopy based tests and are significantly more economical and easier to use than the PCR based tests which are currently mainly used as confirmatory tests. Apart from their popularity in preliminary testing, the report also found that most rapid immunodiagnostic tests also offer other advantages such as portability and ease of use. Some of the rapid tests are highly portable and can be easily conducted anywhere without the requirements of sophisticated labs, equipment, electricity or trained technicians. For instance, around 70% of the total pregnancy tests are currently being conducted at home without the requirement of a lab or a trained technician.
Despite its strong growth, the report also noted that factors such as decreasing prices, short product lifecycles and high dependency on imports were major factors hampering the growth of this market. The report found that a major cause of concern was the increasing imports from China, with Chinese manufacturers selling their kits at significantly lower prices than that of domestic manufacturers.
