How to Avoid the Three Most Common Woes of Heathrow Airport Parking
Anyone who has ever tried to procure a parking space at the airport, any airport, during peak travel times just before a major holiday?

Anyone who has ever tried to procure a parking space at the airport, any airport, during peak travel times just before a major holiday can tell you that walking a mile on hot coals while juggling an angry cat is easier and more enjoyable. Heathrow airport parking is probably the worst of them. (New York’s LaGuardia (LGA) runs a tight second) There are three things that really trip my trigger when parking at the airport. Check and see if these things are on your pet peeve list as well.
● “See who can get there first” drivers
● A new scratch or ding every single time
● Missed it by that much
That Is My Spot
I cannot count how many times I have spied the perfect space in the next lane only to have some idiot in a sports car so small it should have a “Mattel” stamp on it beat me to it. Once I have spied said parking space, I look in all directions to gauge whether or not someone else has spied it. When I am sure no one else is trying to reach it, I make my move. The problem is, right before I get there, some idiot in a foreign sports car comes zipping up the down lane and whooshes in to the space, missing me by mere inches. I told the last person that they should take their toy car back to Toys R Us and get a refund so that they could buy a real car.
Insert Nickel Here
Whenever I return from a trip, there is always a new scratch or ding on my car. It just never fails. It is almost as if my car is a magnet for fat people who have to open the car door all the way, bouncing it off of my new paint job. If I had a pound for every time this has happened, I could cover my car with pound coins and make it indestructible.
Missed It by That Much
It is bad enough that we have to endure all the trouble that goes with airport parking but when it actually causes you to miss your flight, I would say that it has gone too far. On one occasion, it took so long to park that it happened to me. The shuttle bus driver apparently did not see me. I would hate to think that he did and just chose to ignore me. By the time I reached the terminal, my flight had taxied to the runway and I wound up waiting six hours for another flight.
My Troubles Are Over
Fortunately, I will never have to endure this kind of indignity again. I have recently discovered the joys of booking online. Now I can plan my entire route online. A simple log-in or a few taps on my iPhone secures and pays for my parking space in any city they service. I can park in a secure location while security cameras watch my car. Of course, problems at the airport still occur. I often run late and flights are delayed or cancelled on occasion. No matter what, I know I do not have to worry about my car. I even purchased season tickets so I do not have to do anything but show up and park my baby in a safe and secure environment. Heathrow airport parking is no longer a problem.
