Passive infrared sensor equipment or PIR sensors, are used mostly in the field of security detection, although they can be used almost anywhere infrared detection is needed. It is evolving into a very sophisticated piece of equipment. It works by detecting heat radiating from a human body, like a heat signature that the sensors recognize against a background with a near constant temperature cooler than that which it detects. (Like a wall or bushes and shrubs) Once the heat signature is detected, the sensor emits a sound or turns on a bright light (Or both) to warn the powers that be of a possible threat approaching.
Smile For The Camera
The alarm and light also lets the approaching person know that he or she has been detected giving rise to the idea that if they flee at this point, their intent was one of mischief or foul play. The more sophisticated units would also snap a picture of the would be assailant and submit the image to a criminal database with facial recognition software. This software is a part of the nationwide and international criminal database and is used in manhunts and in the solving of crimes.
3D Facial Recognition
Telephoto PIR sensors have only been around for a short while as the technology involved is fairly new. The camera feature of the PIR has several interlocking phases that operate simultaneously and feature a three dimensional sensor that captures certain information on facial features specific to its programming. Features like the contour of the nose and eyes, significant scars and the shape of the head, mouth and ears are used to match the image to an earlier photograph in the database.
Growth Elimination
The ears can only be used for recent identification images as they are one of two parts of the human body that never stops growing. They can change form slightly, which is enough to cast disparaging doubt upon the accuracy of the identification. The nose also continues to grow throughout our lives but it does not change its natural contour like the ear, which is more likely to be subjected to the effects of gravity.
Skin Texture Analysis
The second method employed by telephoto passive infrared is called skin texture analysis. This method can increase the odds of facial recognition by 25%. It works by analysing the skin of the face and turning the lines, bumps, and imperfections into a mathematical equation. This equation is then matched mathematically to the images in the database for facial recognition and identification.
Traditional Face Compression
The telephoto PIR sensors unit also uses the traditional recognition process by which an algorithm scans the new image taken when the heat signature detected the intruder and then matches the portion of the face it has studied with an algorithm or algorithms of faces in the database that closely match. While these processes are going on, other, more sophisticated algorithms are hard art work normalizing an entire image gallery of faces, once that is zipped into a compressed state, the only part that is kept salient is the part of the face that can be useful in facial recognition. This is compared with a probe image. This method was one of the earliest forms of facial recognition and was widely trusted due to the use of only one portion of the face which could only match itself in another image thereby ensuring the veracity of the recognition.
