Guruvayur temple is in Guruvayur town of Thrissur district in Kerala. As per legends, this shrine is 5,000 years old. It is dedicated to Lord Krishna who is also popular as Guruvayurappan. There are numerous magnificent paintings, statues, images and sculptures of Lord Krishna that are located inside of this holy place. Furthermore, you can also view a standing image of Lord Krishna which has four hands holding mace, conch, lotus and discus. The icons have been carved from special stone which is known as “Patala Anjana”.
Sabarimala temple is located in the Western Ghat mountain ranges of Pathanamthitta district in Kerala. This temple is devoted to Lord Ayyappan. It is assumed to be the place where Ayyappan meditated. The holy place gets crowded with myriads of pilgrims, mostly during the time of festival that is held from November to January. The other two major festivals are celebrated in the premises of this sacred place every year. First one is held in the month of December i.e. Mandala Pooja and another one is Makaravilakku which occurs in the month of January.
Meenakshi temple is situated on the banks of Vaigai River in Madurai city of Tamil Nadu. This shrine is consecrated to Lord Shiva (Sundareswara) and his consort Goddess Parvati (Meenakshi). Here, you can explore exquisite images, paintings, statues, monuments and sculptures that have been engraved from “emerald green stone”. This temple has five main entrances gates, a number of holy tanks, enormous pillars, 14 colossal Gopurams (gate towers) and so on. The architectural marvel of this shrine is related to the Dravidian style.
