Outlet officials say this is the first Coach Factory Store in Arizona. Coach Inc. also opened a Coach Men's Factory Store at the mall. The stores sell designer handbags, wallets and accessories at a discount.
Coach officials refused to comment, saying their policy is to promote full-priced Coach stores instead of factory stores.
Customers, though, are buzzing.Jaffe bought a leather zip-around wallet at a discount last month. She had shopped for Coach goods at Valley department stores.Before it opened in Anthem, the nearest Coach Factory Store was at the Desert Hills Premium Outlets in Cabazon, Calif.Sara Zappia, Outlets at Anthem's general manager, said the Coach stores are top-of-line additions of upscale, national brands. There are more than 65 retail shops at the outlet center, but Zappia would not disclose the exact number because talks are under way to bring more on board, she said.New stores at the outlets this year involve G by Guess, Sports Divas & Dudes, Posh Flops and the two Coach stores."These are the only Coach outlets in Arizona and it's exciting to introduce them to shoppers not only in the Valley but across the state," Zappia said. "With the holidays approaching, we're pleased to provide our shoppers with new merchandise selections that symbolize unsurpassed quality and value."The store hosted a grand opening Oct. 21.

Several Valley women recently shopping at the store said they previously drove to and shopped at out-of-state outlet centers for Coach products.
