March 1st 2012 - The European Data Centre Association, (EUDCA), announces its formal launch at Data Centre World. As the European data centre industry comes to maturity it faces new and ever increasingly difficult challenges. There are lots of organisations and associations that represent data centres either locally, or sometimes nationally, but this is just not enough. It is sensible, or even vital, in the complex governmental, official, and business world of today for those who have similar interests or goals to join together to create a strong industry body.
An Association has more strength than individual companies acting alone, coalescing into a group that can represent them effectively and defend their interests where necessary.
The EUDCA will proactively generate ideas that influence debate at technical, environmental and political level. It is easier for external bodies at a European, national and local level to be able to deal with one association, representing a number of interests.
The data centre industry needs a body that can provide a coherent voice to both the media and the institutions that impact its future development.
The objective of the EUDCA is simple:
• To create a professional and sustainable association that provides a collective voice for the industry with respect to regulation and policy issues that may affect it.
• To provide a platform for members to contribute to the establishment of best practice, education, industry leadership and technical standards to which the data centre industry adheres.
• To provide a European voice in the forward development of data centres internationally
Since September 2011 when the concept of a European Data Centre Association was proposed at a meeting in Brussels, over 50 companies and individuals from every aspect of the industry and from countries throughout Europe have joined up to become members of the EUDCA. An interim Board has been elected and has been working hard to form the association, to draft and submit Articles of Association to the appropriate authorities and to become a legal entity. The interim Board has also been working on a roadmap for the association to define what it will deliver on behalf of its members and the industry as a whole.
Now that the Articles of Association have been formally accepted and the EUDCA is recognised as a legal association, it is ready to launch formally. Data Centres 2012, the leading industry conference, has been chosen as the platform for the launch. During the conference a presentation will be made by the Chairman of the Board, Bernard Lecanu. The roadmap for the association will also be presented and members or potential members will be given the opportunity to ask questions about the association and its objectives.
