Owners of Kalahari Foods- the South African food store located in the southern suburbs of Perth, have announced that they are all set to launch a bigger and better version of their store from the 10th of March onwards. The store was always a delight for the local South African community located at Perth, who are amazed at the variety and quality of products. The revamped store, with its better and bigger range of products is sure to add to their joy!
They will also be opening their new online store shortly, to allow locals to order these goods from the comfort of their own home. Besides supplying South African food, they also support the World Fair Trade Organization and are involved in selling unique handicraft made from materials such as recycled waste, wire and beads, telephone and textiles.
As for the food, the store sells the best biltong in Perth. Besides these, they sell, droewors, droewor spices, traditional boerwors, chips, chocolates, dried fruits and snacks, drinks, ouma rusks and biscuits, groceries, jams and spreads, lollies and sweets, sauces such as peri peri and swazi fire sauce, marinades, soups, spices such as braai seasoning and Cajun, tea and coffee, tinned fruit, desserts etc. And on Saturdays, delicious Vetkoek is available for sale at just $5.
The shop is owned and managed by Fritz and Julienne Arnold, whose immense love for South Africa, especially the Kalahari, had led them to open the store. "Any and every South African is bound to feel at home here, at Kalahari. The richness of the native Kalahari culture isn't lost with the community, who come here for some delicious Koeksisters, melkert and peppermint crisp tert in the café, and read the Sarie magazine, even as Laurika Rauch's voice fills the place. Besides, we can always spare sometime to chat with our customers," says Julienne.
Kalahari cuisine isn't always about the food styles of the ancient Bushmen; it is a combination of a wide variety of eating styles including eating at Bomas, the large outdoors areas used for social gatherings, and cooking braai or South African styled grilled meat. Popular ethnic food includes nabbas, pans, and roosterkoek.
