Maintaining good oral hygiene is one of the important things that one can do for their teeth and gums. Majority of people do not know that oral hygiene is more than brushing. Teeth play a main role in mastication of food, if it is not taken care in the right way it can cause various problems. Check your teeth regularly or at least once in 6 months with a qualified dentist.
"Brushing is just a part of maintaining oral hygiene, however most people do not know the right procedure to brush teeth. Proper techniques for brushing must be followed and it just hardly takes 2 minutes. Never brush hard as it can affect enamel in course of time and lead to sensitiveness. First clean the outer surface of the upper teeth in vertical position from top to bottom. Then the lower teeth must be brushed in vertical position from bottom to top. Clean the inner surface of the teeth by following the procedures mentioned before. Next act of brushing is to clean the chewing surfaces of the teeth and if you want to enjoy fresh breath do not forget to clean the tongue also. Small headed soft bristled brush would be the right choice as it can easily remove debris and plaque completely from the teeth. If you have difficulty in brushing then use a powered tooth brush can be used which can clean your teeth with a minimal effort" commented Dr. Vanessa
She also added, "Toothpaste also plays a main role in maintaining the oral hygiene of the teeth, you can find different varieties of tooth paste to prevent various conditions including cavities, gingivitis, tartar, stained teeth and sensitivity of the teeth. If you have any concern about this you can consult your teeth whitening cosmetic dentist who will advise the right toothpaste for you."
With an ordinary brush it is difficult to remove debris and other food particles between teeth but flossing is an effective way to get rid of them. It helps to prevent gingivitis and infection of the gum. Dental flossing can be done with the help of special elastic which is usually available at drug store or dentist office. It has to be moved slowly between the tooth in a gentle motion or else it can cause bleeding and irritation. Flossing on a regular basis prevents spreading of bacteria from one tooth to another. Interdental brush can also be used to remove the built up plaque and debris between the teeth where normal brush cannot reach.
