The future's energy is in the wind. Mess- und Regeltechnikunternehmen G. Lufft was at the forefront of this new technology years ago. Among its current specialties is the development of sensors for wind energy power stations. Windmills and wind turbines cannot be operated without reliable information about wind conditions. Wind sensors measure wind direction and speed, vital information for aligning the wind turbine's nacelle and rotor.
Wind energy is one of the strongest growing renewable energy sectors in the world. Using wind energy significantly lowers CO2 emissions while reducing dependence on resources such as natural gas, petroleum, coal, and uranium. Additionally, wind energy systems have the advantage that they can be used to produce electricity in all climate zones, on sea and in all kinds of landscape. The total capacity of wind energy systems around the world was more than 238,000 megawatts in 2011. The People's Republic of China is ahead of countries such as the United States, Germany, and Spain, and is one of the largest producers of wind energy. Harvard University researchers have calculated the global wind energy potential and have determined that it far exceeds the world's energy needs.
The G. Lufft GmbH VENTUS-UMB Ultrasonic Wind Sensor is an intelligent wind sensor with digital and analog data output. The wind sensor weighs just 1.7 kg and precisely measures environmental data such as wind direction and speed, as well as acoustic and virtual temperature. The serial or analog data includes current data, average data (arithmetic or vectorial), or minimum and maximum valuables with variable sampling rates. The ultrasonic measuring principle works without parts prone to wear and tear and provides maintenance-free environmental measures. During extreme environmental conditions, including extreme cold, the device has its own 240W heat source.
Before the VENTUS ultrasonic anemometers were released to manufacturers of large wind electricity generators, they underwent a battery of tests to assure precision and maintenance-free operation. The intelligent wind sensors by Lufft have withstood repeated corrosion tests with salt baths, vibration, and icing conditions. Highly accelerated life tests demonstrated the reliability and robustness of the sensors. The results of these tests led to a final fine tuning and optimization of the sensors.
LUFFT's wind sensors will provide guaranteed and tested accuracy for years. The Fellbach company has a rich tradition going back to 1881 and promises the best of German quality engineering.
About G.Lufft Mess- und Regeltechnik GmbH:
G. LUFFT Mess- und Regeltechnik has been dealing with the production of climatological measuring equipment since its foundation by Gotthilf Lufft in 1881.
The precision workmanship of highly skilled specialists has enabled the LUFFT label to be known and the products to be purchased worldwide. The LUFFT products and equipment are to be found wherever atmospheric pressure, temperature, relative humidity and other environmental factors require to be measured or recorded.
To keep in pace with the market and the modern technologies, electronic devices have been developed parallel to the mechanical products according to the basic principle "Tradition and Innovation".
