Community Human Services Corporation, a non-profit based in Oakland, will hold its second annual summer fundraiser Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Shadow Lounge/AVA. Rock the Streets: Summer Jam will feature Pittsburgh’s most notable celebrities, musicians, artists, and community members taking a stand against poverty. Funds raised at the donation-based event will be used to support the numerous projects CHS offers to help Pittsburgh’s less fortunate.
CHS Development Director, Diane McMahon said, “Rock the Streets: Summer Jam” will provide critical support for the thousands of very low income people that CHS helps each year. More people than ever are asking for help, and we want to make sure that we will be there for them.” Rock The Streets: Summer Jam is a volunteer-organized and staffed event that will host a number of local bands and artists committed to ending homelessness. Mrs. McMahon said, “It heartens me to see how passionate they are about helping others that are struggling in Pittsburgh .”
Bands scheduled to appear include: School of Athens, Truth in Advertising, Paul Luc, Big Hurry, The Jim Dandies, Ben Hardt, Caleb Lovely, Bear Cub, and Dream Job.
Hosted by local playwright, Robert Isenberg, a jazz and tapas VIP hour begins at 7pm with Special Guest Bartenders including Bill Peduto, Sean McDowell of WDVE, Dr. Kristin Jones from UPMC. Doors open for General Admission, and at a reduced rate to those donating a canned good, at 8pm. An art show and sale as well as a gift basket raffle round out the event. The evening ends with a DJ hour from 1am - 2am.
Rock the Streets: Summer Jam is one of many outreach events created to involve the greater Pittsburgh community in recognizing the need for low income assistance. Community Human Services Corporation seeks to enhance people’s lives and strengthen communities by providing opportunities to develop individual potential. The organization is known for delivering comprehensive services that maximize the health and well-being of those it serves in Oakland and the greater Pittsburgh area.
