Sahara India Pariwar invites all the ticket bearers of 8th April’s match between Pune Warriors India and Kings XI Punjab to witness the Grand, Bollywood Star studded Opening Ceremony of the home ground of Pune Warriors India – the ultra modern ‘Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium’
Led by Bollywood Stars, 192 Cultural Dancers and 120 Dhol and Tutari players along with 100 Lezim Dancers to enthrall the audience

Pune, April 5, 2012: Sahara India Pariwar, the prime promoter & patron of sports in India, and owner of Pune IPL franchisee, has invited all the ticket bearers of the first IPL match hosted by ‘Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium’ on Sunday, 8th April, 2011, to be played between Pune Warriors India and Kings XI Punjab, to come and witness the Opening Ceremony of the home ground of Pune Warriors India, prior to the match. As ‘Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium’ hosts its first IPL match, the audiences are set to witness a gala night full of entertainment, fervor, glitterati and excitement. The gates will open for the audience at 4:00 p.m. and the gala ceremony will start at 5:30 p.m.
The evening will be a fusion of cricketing and entertainment excellence, and a mélange of the Indian cultural heritage and the young and chic tone of the Pune city. The high voltage performance by a number of Bollywood stars including Ms. Priyanka Chopra, Ms. Bipasha Basu, Ms. Dia Mirza, Ms. Preity Zinta, Ms. Neha Dhupia, Ms. Sameera Reddy and Ms. Jacqueline Fernandez along with the presence of Shri Amitabh Bachchan will make the audience enthralled. The ceremony shall have a fanfare by the grand performances of 120 Dhol and Tutari players and 100 Lezim Dancers. The spectators shall also be captivated by a series of special performance that will have 8 forms of cultural dances that included Kashmiri, Bengali, Bhangra, U.P. dance, Rajasthani, Gujarati, South Indian and Lavani dance.
The ‘Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium’ of Maharashtra Cricket Association is an architectural jewel and has been designed by Sir Michael Hopkins, whereas the structural design has been done by AKT, U.K., setting up a stellar example of civil engineering. Keeping in mind the comfort of spectators, superior and even quality tip-up seats have been imported from Australia and have been installed in all areas of the stadium. The stadium and the seating arrangement have been designed in such a way that an unobstructed view is assured from each and every location making it the best match viewing experience.
M/s Shapoorji Pallonji & Company Limited have constructed the stadium with the modern precast design and construction expertise imported from Dubai. One of the most important features of the stadium is its rain water drainage system. It has been observed that many times rain plays a spoilsport and even light showers for some time force organizers to alter the match size / duration. To overcome this problem, MCA has opted for sand based outfield developed departmentally with technical assistance from STRI Limited, U.K. This technology facilitates faster drainage of rain water and in order to achieve this, a geo-textile fabric has been installed above the ground and perforated PVC pipes have been laid down to slope in trenches. The system has been successfully tested. Even during the heavy showers, water on the outfield drained out fast making it ready for play again just in some minutes.
