When Miramont Pointe Senior Living Community Sales & Marketing Director Jennifer Gertner met with Working Web Solutions owner Mary Killelea, her plan was clear: to forge a trail for her seniors on Facebook. Killelea created their Facebook fan page and hosted a Facebook class for residents.
One resident, Ralph Service, 94 years young jumped at the chance to connect with his children and grandchildren scattered from coast to coast. Killelea said, "Facebook didn't believe Ralph was 94 years old. We had to make a copy of his driver's license to prove his age to secure his profile." But Ralph isn't the oldest person on Facebook, that honor belongs to Anne D. Krum, she's 105. People over 55 are the fastest-growing segment on Facebook .
Every morning new events and announcements are posted on the Miramont Pointe Facebook fan page. Family members of residents can easily see what Grandmom and Granddad are doing at Miramont Pointe. Event photos are uploaded to albums on Facebook every week.
Many seniors had concerns about privacy and being scammed online. Killelea walked them through the steps and showed them how to secure their profile and upload their favorite photographs. The scanner came in handy as most photographs were from the pre-digital days. She also suggested that residents take it slow, only friending people they knew. Most residents just wanted to read their news feed and be able to see photographs of their grandkids.

Residents enjoy The Willamette Room where they can meet friends for billiards and ice cream or social hour, heated indoor pool, walking paths, fitness room, The Talbert Room for programs and special events, fireside lounge and library, guest suites, private dining room and the Wall Street Room, a distinctive clubroom with internet-wired computers.
