Long Island plastic surgeon, Dr. Charlotte Rhee is seeing a significant increase in patient inquiries for male and female breast reduction. The go-to treatment for removing unwanted breast tissue, Dr. Rhee also explains some of the procedure's many benefits.
"Breast reduction is not just about making patients look better, but making them feel better as well," explains Dr. Rhee. "It has been embraced by men and women alike to take care of unwanted breast mass for once and for all."
Asked to comment on the different needs of male and female patients, Dr. Rhee offered an explanation: "For women, breast reduction is usually about achieving a more proportionate and comfortable bustline," explains Dr. Rhee. "For men suffering from enlarged male breasts, it's all about restoring a trim, masculine contour." And, as Dr. Rhee points out, breast reduction among men is on the rise.
"More and more, men are beginning to explore their breast reduction options as well," reports Dr. Rhee. "In fact, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there were over 19,000 male breast reduction procedures performed in 2011." According to the ASPS, that figure represents a remarkable 8% growth in one year alone.
Asked to speculate on the growing popularity of breast reduction surgery, Dr Rhee offered a few suggestions. "For one, the procedure is constantly evolving in terms of efficacy, safety and predictability," explains Dr. Rhee. "What's more, practices like ours are committed to staying current with the latest surgical techniques." Demonstrating a commitment to continuing education and cutting-edge technology, Dr. Rhee specializes in an advanced technique known as the lollipop breast reduction, which results in less scarring for patients.
Concluding on the potential benefits of the procedure, Dr. Rhee offered this: "For us, patient satisfaction is always a huge concern. And, when it comes to boosting quality of life, confidence and self-esteem, there are few procedures more effective than breast reduction surgery."
