London's underground is suffering its worse instance of rat infestation for many years, according to reports. Power supply problems are a regular occurrence for London's underground causing misery and delay for tens of thousands of passengers every day. Passengers affected by these delays on a daily basis have called for commercial pest control.
London's Kings Cross is one of the busiest stations in London, and suffers from a serious rat infestation, which a recent power supply issue was recently attributed. In the incident, thousands of passengers had their journeys severely disrupted when a damaged cable knocked out signalling equipment in north London. Trains were stationary for over two hours during rush hour, and many passengers were stranded on trains with in the tunnel for up to four hours.
Kings Cross network is used by over 45,000 passengers each and every day. Commercial pest control is key to ensuring that the rat numbers are kept down.
AkeelJaffar runs HLA Pest Control in London. HLA Pest Control is London's leading Pest Control Specialist, and is a member of the British Pest Control Association and winner of the National Pest Technician Association Awards. He says:
"London Underground does have measures in place to tackle these rodent problems, but unfortunately we cannot use the same methods as we use on other areas where there is an infestation. For example we cannot block holes or monitor the amount of rats due to the nature of the tube network, which is an open tunnel system. However, there are measures we can put in place given that the rat infestation is in an area that poison will not pose a danger to animals or children, as it does in residential homes. The London Underground simply needs to invest money and put in place an effective programme to control the problem and prevent further delays and misery to tens of thousands of passengers every day."
