A recent article highlighting historic Kailua Village was written and released by Hawaii's famous Royal Kona Resort hotel. The village lies just a short distance from Kona International Airport. Prior to its exposure to the American tourism industry, this area served as a quiet fishing village for the local population, and also a popular relaxation destination for Hawaiian royalty.
The area has the expected hotels and resorts, but also has an incredibly rich and diverse history. Those who take the time to thoroughly explore the area will find more history than they can discover in one visit. Historic Mokuiakaua Church and Hulihee Palace are two of the more prominent, and readily available, locations in the area. King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Resort was created by the king himself and used by him until his death in 1819. This Hawaii resort also has the Ahuena Heiau situated nearby, which is a temple reconstructed in the style of traditional Hawaiian culture. Those who need to experience the expected in Hawaii will enjoy a memorable view of the sunset from Kailua Pier.
In addition to the Hawaii resorts, however, is the unique nightlife offered in the area. Hawaii actually has much to do with the current American idea of the nightlife, as its Don the Beachcomber restaurant signified the founding of the tiki style nightclub. Don the Beachcomber was a famous restaurant entrepreneur, Ernest Raymond Beaumont Gantt. The establishment receives its name from one of the several changes this individual gave himself, although his final name ended up as Donn Beach.
In addition to all of the expected bars, visitors to the area can see authentic hula dancing and flame swallowers. Those who don't like the commotion may enjoy touring one of the many coffee plantations in the area, or going on a guided stargazing tour late at night. For those with a high craving for adventure, a helicopter tour of one of the island's volcanoes, snorkeling, and scuba diving are available in the area.
Individuals interested in touring the area are recommended to stay at the Royal Kona Resort, a Hawaii resort that can be contacted at 800-222-5642.

About
This is something that Donn Beach was aware of and why he was able to find such great success with his Don the Beachcomber restaurants. Don the Beachcomber is the prototypical Tiki restaurant. And most of the Tiki restaurants operating today are based on it in one way or another. That's one of the reasons that Tiki restaurants are as celebrated now as they were decades ago.
