Customer Service Expert Urges Companies to Use Telephone Messages to Extend Their Marketing Reach
Companies should treat their phone system a part of their brand experience, says CEO of On Hold Company

Companies seeking to maximize their marketing reach would do well to invest in strategic on-hold messages, advises the On Hold Company in a recently-published blog post. Doing so can help improve the brand experience and help convert callers into customers, says Bryant Wilson, CEO of On Hold Company.
"Companies are always trying to extend their reach," Wilson says. "They may be reaching out to new customers, or trying to expand their range of services. Either way, they are trying to get their message in front of more people, more often."
But Wilson argues that companies often overlook one of the simplest and most cost-effective methods for extending their reach: their own telephone system.
Wilson, whose company makes on-hold music and messages for over 13,000 businesses, cites studies showing that the average company spends roughly 96 percent of its marketing budget to get the phone to ring.
"When the phone does ring, the implicit question callers have is whether they want to do business with your company," says Wilson. "Literally everything that happens during their phone call helps them answer that question."
If companies cannot take the call right away, then that company's on-hold message will answer that quesiton for the caller.
In a blog post entitled "Extend Your Reach with On-Hold Marketing," On Hold Company recommends a strategic approach to on-hold messaging. According to the post, messages should help paint an audio image of a company's brand, including the company's slogans, latest news, products and current promotions.
"On top of that, your message needs to have the voice talent and background music that matches your brand," Wilson says.
According to Wilson, it is worth the time and effort for companies to have a set of well-crafted on-hold messages.
"When you consider the marketing investment spent to generate a lead, you want to make the most out of every in-coming call," Wilson says.
