I have done all the years, exposed to almost all of the likely problems which may befall a construction project. I want to call on that history to assist a Company to pre-empt obstacles and therefore surmount the problem before it may exist. "
I am prepared to act in any capacity on your project for your advantage. A position (title) is merely an obstacle to the scope of tasks to perform.
As a Foreman or General Foreman, I enjoyed having a work force around me. Without a good work-force, I could not get everything done. With them, and a firm understanding of the job at hand, everything was possible, given a mutual degree of co-operation. I have never had an unwilling work force around me.
As a Project Manager, I was accountable for budget expenditure, progress payments, and regular reporting to Management of the status of their project. Liaison with public authorities, consultants and sub-contractors was an integral part of the position, as was attendance at, and conduct of meetings.
As a Construction Manager, I was responsible for co-ordination and planning of various types of construction projects.
As a Site Engineer on RTA Contracts, I was the Company’s Traffic Engineer. I formulated and drew Traffic Control Plans, dealt with Traffic Committees, and set up and operated traffic control measures. I trained the Traffic Controllers.
Six years in a Surveyor’s office gave me full exposure to the design of roads, drainage, sewer reticulation and water reticulation, along with subdivision layout and developer project management. This design ability was often applied to the ‘completion of design’ so prevalent and so necessary in modern contracting.
My experience was not only in the construction of civil works - roads, stormwater and sewerage schemes. I successfully transitioned into Building Construction, with all its intricate detailing and specialised sections, and the application of myriad Trades.
I have my own computer at home and a laptop for mobility. I have added Autocad, Turbocad, Turboproject and Microsoft Project, and have created and used these programs to advantage on recent construction projects.
My only opportunity and my keenest desire at this, the twilight of my career, is to impart as much of my acquired experience to as many up-and-coming aspirants at every opportunity.
