Protect America, Inc., the nation's premier wireless home security provider, is helping former Hawaii Alarm customers that were abandoned when the company folded.
Employees of Hawaii Alarm were terminated without warning in February. Operations at the company ceased immediately with no apparent attempt to contact customers about the change. Hawaii Alarm's president, Arthur Miller, left the state after the business closed. Employees left wondering what happened told Hawaii News Now that Miller was nowhere to be found.
"I was told to return my laptop, return my phone, return the company car, and he wanted to break ties with me, and fired me, basically," Augie Tulba said, according to Hawaii News Now. "I was hired as an employee. And just like everybody out there, I'm a victim," he said.
Customers flooded Hawaii Alarm's Facebook page to seek out information and complain about the sudden termination of their service. Despite closing more than two months ago, many customers are just learning their home security systems not monitored. It is not known whether Hawaii Alarm continued to charge customers after they stopped operations.
"These homeowners deserve to be protected," said Protect America's chief operating officer Scott Fleming. "To have the monitoring on your security system suddenly terminate can be frightening. We wanted to reach out to help get their service back online with the least amount of hassle possible."
As the nation's leading wireless security company, Protect America is offering former Hawaii Alarm customers free equipment that will reconnect their existing security systems. The installation process is completed by the customer, which lowers costs often associated with other companies, Fleming said.
"We've been in business for over 20 years and we're not going anywhere," Fleming added. "Crime is a real concern for many and we want to do whatever we can to bring some peace of mind back to these homes."
