Breast Augmentation Continues to Rise as Surgery and Results Become More Streamlined

One of the most frequently performed, and most popular cosmetic procedures in the U.S. breast augmentation can offer women with small or unevenly sized breasts a fuller, firmer, better-proportioned look through the placement of silicone or saline implants in the breast. Dr. Schwartz treats women who elect to undergo breast augmentation for a number of reasons, including increasing breast size, compensating for reduced breast mass after pregnancy, or correcting a congenital breast defect.

Another reason that women choose surgical augmentation is the number of choices she has so that each surgery can be customized to the woman having it. The procedure can last from one to two hours and is typically performed with a twilight type of anesthetic. Subtle incisions are made in places to minimize scar visibility including the crease on the undersurface of the breast (inframammary), around the areola, (periareolar) and in the underarm (transaxillary).
Breast implants consist of silicone shells filled with either saline or silicone gel.
