For many, food allergies are a part of daily life that must be dealt with. If allergies are left ignored or unmanaged, your overall health can decline, and further allergies can develop. If you believe that you have an allergy, it is necessary to contact a medical professional immediately so that the problem food can be identified. Doctors at Oregon-based Allergy, Asthma and Dermatology Associates, P.C. (AADAPC) offer patients testing and treatments that are simple, yet effective. While many allergy testing procedures can be painful, AADA strives to conduct testing in a compassionate environment, with the patient experiencing as little pain as possible.
The most commonly performed allergy tests include blood, and skin prick tests. The skin prick test involves a needle containing an allergen being placed below the skin. If the skin is found to develop redness, or itchiness, that the person is allergic to that allergen. Blood tests are less invasive than skin tests, and are done with just one needle prick to the skin, unlike skin tests. Blood tests are also most effective in identifying food allergies, as well as common allergy triggers, such as dust, mold, pollen, and pet dander.
AADAPC also offers diagnosis and treatment for the rare, inflammatory disease, Eospinophilic esophagatis (EoE). EoE is a newly-recognized condition, most commonly caused by acid reflux disease, that occurs when the inner lining of the esophagus wall becomes inflamed with white blood cells. This disease is most commonly diagnosed in male children and adults with allergies or asthma.
When it comes to diagnosing EoE, doctors at AADAPC will remove a small tissue sample from the lining of the esophagus for laboratory analysis. A high presence of white blood cells found in the tissue sample will confirm the diagnosis of EoE, after which a doctor will recommend efficient treatments that include changing your diet, or use of anti-inflammatory medications.
If you believe you are experiencing a food allergy, it is essential that you contact an experienced medical professional like any of the allergists at Allergy, Asthma and Dermatology Associates, P.C. (AADAPC). Those experiencing issues with food allergies issues should contact AADA, where experienced staff members can help you quickly, safely, and effectively.
