Paper High is an online gift store that sells fair trade paper products and unusual (but ethically made) and eco-friendly gifts made in India, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Unique and handmade gifts like leather bound journals, leather notebooks, leather photo albums, wooden photo frames, etc. are sold for less than £10 at the store.
But ethical does not equal compromise on quality. The paper used in every journal is handmade Khadda paper, produced from recycled cotton. They're acid free and great to write or draw on. As for the leather that binds these papers, they're carefully and expertly stitched around the outside to give a rough and rugged feel.
Besides leather products, users can choose from unusual gifts like sari fabric photo albums, Christmas decorations, stocking fillers, wood and ceramic drawers, handmade rugs, hand knitted woollen hats, decorative hangings, etc.
"It is Christmas in the heart that puts Christmas in the air. Sadly, we've made it a festival about gratifying ourselves with material objects and not worrying if everyone involved in the gift making process was treated fairly," says a spokesperson for the online gift store.
"Before we decide to include a product for sale, there are three considerations that must be fulfilled; they should be fair trade, they should have minimal impact on the environment, and must bring about a positive impact. All our products are made by organisations/charities accredited by fair trade, using sustainable and recyclable materials.
