Allergic rhinitis is an allergic irritation of the nose. This condition occurs when allergens, such as pollen, dust, mold, or animal dander are inhaled by a person with a sensitive immune system, triggering the release of allergy symptoms. This condition can also be caused when a person eats a food they are allergic to. Allergic rhinitis is also called "hay fever," or "seasonal allergies."

Allergic rhinitis can develop in both children and adults, although it does not usually develop in children under the age of 6.
