The brow lift procedure has been steadily on the rise among both women and men, and Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr. Mark Epstein is weighing in on what makes the procedure so popular.
"The brow lift, also referred to as the forehead lift, revitalizes drooping or lined foreheads," Dr. Mark Epstein. "This helps patients look less angry, sad or tired, and improves their overall appearance, making them look refreshed."
Some of the tell-tale signs of aging, such as lines, creases and wrinkles on the forehead, are inevitable, especially if the patient has a very expressive face or make habitual facial signs of worry, such as knitting their brows together. As a result of these repeated natural facial actions and everyday muscle activity, the brow and forehead areas are often the first to show the signs of aging.
Other factors such as hereditary traits, skin elasticity and whether the patient smokes influence the development of forehead lines. Whatever the cause, the end result is the same: low and heavy eyebrows that make the person look weary, agitated, or worried much of the time - even when they're perfectly well-rested and in a great mood.
Oftentimes, men and women who want to improve these aesthetic issues undergo the brow lift procedure when they want substantial, noticeable results but are not ready or suitable for a more severe surgery, such as a full facelift. The brow lift creates natural-looking results that are subtle while taking years off the patient's upper face area.
Brow lift surgery can be performed using either minimally invasive, also known as endoscopic, procedures or using traditional open technique methods. During these procedures, the muscles above the eyes are altered to smooth lines and raise the eyebrows for a more youthful, alert appearance.
