The island has something to offer for literally everyone: visible history, vibrant culture, great nightlife, stunning natural sites, vast shops, great diving spots and beautiful beaches, among others. Whether it's your first vacation to Curacao or not (many people don't come only once), there is always something new to discover. To make it as easy as possible for you, we've compiled a list of some of the best places and activities in Curacao that you don't want to miss. It might be too much to do all of the activities on the list on one vacation, but thankfully, you don't have to do them all. In fact, this is a good reason to come back soon.
Pontoon bridge
The Pontoon Bridge is the most famous bridge in Curacao. If you've ever seen pictures of Curacao, chances are you've seen the Pontoon Bridge (which is actually called the Queen Emma Bridge). It is one of the most famous and popular tourist destinations in Curacao. A floating pontoon bridge connects two districts, Punda and Otrobanda, in Willemstad, Curacao´s capital.
The bridge opens several times a day to allow ships to pass, and this is done in a rather specific way. The pontoon bridge moves completely to one side of the canal, placing it on its side.
Beautiful beaches
A vacation on a tropical island is not complete without relaxing on one of the many beautiful beaches. With over 35 fabulous beaches to choose from, it can even be difficult for you to choose. Almost untouched nature makes each beach different and unique.
For the thrill-seekers, there is a beach called Playa Forti where you can jump from a ten-meter cliff into the clear waters below. It is located in West Point, home to some of Curacao's best beaches.
Special events and concerts
Curacao's vibrant culture is reflected in the large number of events that are organized. Sports, concerts, special dinners, and weekly happy hours are commonly held to celebrate life every day. One particular event should be mentioned here: carnival. If you are in Curacao in February, you should not miss it. Don't worry, this is almost impossible to do. The whole island and all its inhabitants are involved in this big colorful holiday and everyone is welcome.
One of the most famous musical events in Curacao is the North Sea Jazz Festival. This three-day festival has been running for decades and continues to surpass big names and emerging talent.
Pitermaay
Pitermaai is one of the most versatile and colorful neighborhoods in Curacao. The area is full of cafes, restaurants, small shops and nightclubs. Pietermaai is a place where artists, entrepreneurs, young and old, tourists and music lovers meet. This combination of people fits perfectly into the current state of the buildings in Pietermaai: not everything is perfect, but this is what makes it such a special place.
Colorful Handelskade
Walking through Willemstad, you can't help but notice the very characteristic and colorful Handelskade. Take a walk here, sit on one of the terraces and have a refreshing drink while enjoying the view. The colorful buildings on Handelskad characterize the island. It is no coincidence that Handelskade is printed on so many Curaçao postcards.
Dream Beach Aquarium
The most famous beach - and for many the most beautiful - of Curacao is Seaquarium Beach. Among the palms that gently flutter in the wind, bathers can wonderfully relax and enjoy life. Families with children and young people love to visit Seaquarium beach because the infrastructure is very good. There are numerous water sports such as jet skiing, diving, etc. In addition, Dream beach is full of beach bars, shops and restaurants.
There is always something to do and you can spend a full day at Seaquarium Beach without any hassle. In addition, the beach hosts movie nights and concerts, so even after sunset there is still a long way to go. With a delicious Curacao Azul or other cocktail, there is no other place that offers a Caribbean feel as genuine as this.
