The early systems used propellant gases to force the solution through the skin; an example is the carbon dioxide gas cartridge. A needle free injection system consists of an injection device, an air cartridge and a disposable needle free syringe. The injection device and the disposable syringe are made up of plastic and the syringe is the only system that comes in contact with the skin.
