The seminar was designed specifically for medical practices to explain the social media revolution and the challenges they face. LAN Systems ( http://www.lansystems.com ) presented information on how to get started and use social media platforms to promote their practices.
Focusing on the unique needs of medical practices, we discussed how to efficiently use social media as a marketing strategy to reach potential and existing patients with relevant content. Topics included LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and blogging. Emphasis was placed on the most used and most effective types of social media and the tools needed to minimize administration of each platform. Often, getting started and understanding the time investment is the most difficult part. Several discussions on how to begin a social media campaign were included and a tutorial on getting started with Twitter gave step-by-step instructions. Attendees had a chance to have their specific questions addressed and offer their own experiences.
"Social media is exploding on the medical front. As more hospitals adopt a social media strategy, physicians and practices will have to be more active online. Our vast healthcare experience allows us to make recommendations that practices can use today," said Liz Hansen, Senior Account Executive. "We showed how social media is relevant and confirmed its importance. Everyone learned something of value. We received so many requests to continue the discussion that we are planning another session that will take us to the next level for developing a social media strategy."
