"If you have ever been wrongfully convicted, you know how much of a stigma it can create."
The Law Offices of Higbee and Associates, a leading criminal record clearing law firm, will soon launch a free online service to assist people in applying for pardons in most states and for federal offenses. The site, which is scheduled to launch in October of 2010, will be fully automated.
"Pardons are a longshot in most states, people should not be paying hundreds of dollars to have an automated system help them obtain their records and print a form," said attorney Benjamin Yrungaray who helped develop the service. "We are in the final stages and are excited to see people put it to use. It is a great project that extends our law firm’s tradition of pro bono work."
There are several companies who charge people hundreds of dollars for on-line do-it-yourself services or form processor services designed to help people apply for pardons. "Most of those companies are shady with F or D ratings from the Better Business Bureau and reputations for defrauding people. Our forthcoming site will blow away those companies in the three important areas," says attorney Mathew K. Higbee. "First, it will offer more features. Second, it will be created by licensed attorneys in each state. Third, and best of all, it will be absolutely free."
Those who use the service will also receive a free tips from attorneys on how to maximize their chances of success and on how to make sure their records are updated and removed from private and public databases. For those who wish to hire an attorney after using the service, discounted representation will be available.
The site, which will be available at Pardon411.com, will be offering free pardons in California, Florida, Georgia, New York and Texas in October. Higbee says the site will probably add a state each month. The site’s services will also be available on RecordClearing.org, as well as more than 40 other confirmed sites that already attract thousands of visitors on a monthly basis. The goal is to make the service one which any individual or organization can quickly and freely integrate into their web site. We expect the service to almost immediately have a dramatic impact and reach.
The development of the site and advertising budget to promote it are being donated by private contributions.
