"FLNG Segment Will be the Key Driver for Global LNG Industry Growth "
Amidst increasing demand for natural gas across the globe, an increasing number of countries are planning to build LNG terminals. With security and land issues hampering construction of new build onshore terminals, countries like the US are coming up with Floating LNG (FLNG) terminals. By 2015, FLNG terminals will contribute around 12.6% of global regasification capacity.
Advantages like low cost and shorter construction periods will enable FLNG regasification capacity additions at an AAGR of 36.4% between 2009 and 2015. During the same period, onshore regasification terminals are expected to witness capacity additions at an AAGR of 13.1%. During the period 2009-15, 22 new FLNG terminals will be built in addition to the five existing ones, out of which, 19 will be regasification terminals and three will be liquefaction terminals.
