Internationally renowned script consultant, Dr. Linda Seger will receive the Redemptive Storyteller Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Fifth Annual Redemptive Film Festival (RFF), November 13 at 5:00 P.M., to be held at the Regent University, School of Communication main theatre. The Redemptive Film Festival is a leading international festival for family friendly films. Dr. Seger will be receiving the award for more than three decades of contribution to exemplary redemptive storytelling, specifically in the area of script consulting.
RFF, a highly acclaimed festival, has created waves throughout the international film community and has received entries from about 40 countries on 6 continents. Today there are more than 180,000 web pages that specifically mention the festival. The Virginia Beach based festival is aimed at providing a forum for filmmakers (professionals or students), to showcase and be rewarded for their work on themes that depict the redemptive purposes of God, either through human beings or supernatural occurrences.
According to Dr. Chris Cunningham, Festival Director, “Dr. Linda Seger was selected by the nominating committee because she not only defined the role of script consulting, but through her tireless efforts, has helped countless filmmakers hone their craft. We may probably never be able to fully appreciate the true impact of her work in improving the quality of film, television and even theatre.” Seger developed a method for analyzing scripts for her dissertation project when she completed a doctorate in Drama and Theology from the Graduate Theological Union in 1976. In 1981, she began a script consulting business and since that time has consulted on more than 2000 scripts, including over 40 produced feature films and about 35 produced television projects.
Dr. Seger is an internationally known speaker in the area of screenwriting, having taught and lectured in over 30 countries on 6 continents. As the author of ten books, Seger has appeared in more than 60 radio and television shows, including All Things Considered, National Public Radio, Good Morning L.A., Good Morning New York, and CNN.
The Redemptive Film Festival is produced by FireWorks International, a Virginia based Christian media production company. The festival and will commence on Friday, November 12, with screening of some of the winning films at noon in Screening Rooms A and B of the Regent University School of Communication. The screenings are free to the public. The Grand Awards Ceremony and screening will be held the following day, Saturday, November 13, at 5:00 P.M. in the Main Auditorium, followed by a reception.
For the purposes of this competition, a redemptive film is any film whose main purpose is to depict the act of redeeming, rescuing, or delivering any person from a state of crisis or helplessness. Entries were judged by a panel of professionals with years of experience in many aspects of cinema and television. The films were judged in four categories: Student, Professional, Professional Low Budget (under $30,000), “Distinctly Gospel,” a film category created by the Redemptive Film Festival, and Screenplays (Student and Distinctly Gospel). Winners include comedy shorts, short and full length narratives, documentaries, music videos and animation. The show promises to bring good, clean family fun, free of indecent language, gratuitous violence, sex or nudity to its audiences.
